Motobatt Pro Lithium are lithium batteries with LiFePO4 (lithium-iron-phosphate) chemistry. This chemistry is considered quite safe and stable.

There are two main series: the P-Series and the HP-Series.

  • The P series includes a CBC (Cell Balancing Circuit) for cell balancing.
  • The HP has, in addition to the CBC, a PCB (Protection Circuit Board) for protection against overload, over-discharge and temperature extremes.

Cell Balancing Circuit (CBC)

This is one of the key features of Motobatt lithium batteries and at the same time one of their most important advantages compared to the competition.
Dynamic cell balancing ensures absolute control of their operation, offering superior performance, longer life and increased safety.
Each Motobatt lithium battery incorporates a unique management circuit, which controls the charging and discharging of the cells in real time, even when the currents are unstable during engine operation.
In contrast, many other manufacturers require the purchase of a special, expensive charger, because the balancing circuit is located in the charger and not in the battery itself. However, the control of the cells is only carried out when the battery is connected for charging, offering a clearly lower level of protection and performance.

The QuadFlex technology that some batteries in this series have, allows greater flexibility in the dimensions/terminals of the battery, so that it can replace many different dimensions and standards with fewer models.

Advantages

  • Weight: much lighter than lead-acid (lead-acid), up to 3 times lighter.
  • Starting power (Cranking Current / Cold Cranking): high starting current to start the engine easily, especially in demanding conditions.
  • Charging speed: they claim to reach 90% of their charge in about 6 minutes under suitable conditions.
  • Life cycles: much higher number of discharge/charge cycles compared to lead-acid batteries. Eg. ~2000 cycles (80% DOD) for some models.
  • Self-discharge rate/Storage: low self-discharge, they maintain a high percentage of charge even after months of storage.
  • Safety: due to LiFePO4, CBC and PCB protections, an attempt is made to reduce the risks of overcharging, overheating, etc.

Special Features

  • Overcharge protection: Prevents the machine and charger from sending high voltage to the battery.
  • Discharge protection: Prevents the machine or any consumer from discharging the battery to the point of failure. At 8V the battery will stop working to protect the cells from being discharged to the point of failure. A simple recharge to full voltage and the battery is ready to use again.
  • Reverse Polarity Protection: Protects against the common cause of short circuits during installation.
  • Prevents damage from chargers NOT compatible with lithium batteries that use desulphation or boost functions.
  • Thermal Protection: The built-in thermal sensor triggers the shutdown process before the battery overheats.
